THE BIURET TEST
AIM - To test if a sample of food contains protein
METHOD - 1) Place about 2 ml of the sample into a test tube and add 5 drops of sodium hydroxide
2) add 5 drops of cooper sulfate
3) shake the test tube gently from side to side
RESULT - If the solution remained blue then no protein is present
our solution remained blue but we know that there is protein. We did it wrong :(

THE IODINE TEST
AIM - To test is a sample of food contains complex sugars.
METHOD - 1) place about 2 ml of the sample in a test tube
2) Add 3-5 drops of iodine mix
RESULTS - If complex sugars (i.e. starch) are present the iodine solution will change from a brown colour to a blue/black colour.
DISCUSSION - It changed colour so the bread (food sample) does contain complex sugars
THE BENEDICT'S TEST
AIM - To test a sample of food to determine whether it contains simple sugars
METHOD - 1) Place about 2 ml of sample into a test tube and then at 5 drops of Benedict's solution
2) Heat with a Bunsen until it changes colour. DO NOT BOIL
RESULTS - A positive test for a simple sugar results in the Benedict's solution changing from a blue
colour to a orange colour. No colour change is a negative result
DISCUSSION - the apple changed colour so it means it does have simple sugars

Sprinkled marshmallow filled cookie bowls
2. What were the positive things about your product?
The bowls kept its shaped and it tasted better than expected
- What improvements/ changes would you make if you had the opportunity to do again? To not overbake it and get better fillings that's not so sweet
- What were the key skills that you learnt during the process? If you want to keep the shape of your bowl, put raw chickpeas on top of baking paper or something heavy.
- Have you enjoyed the Kiwi Bakers unit? Explain your answer.Yes, because we express ourselves through food and it was very tasty and filling :)
- What else would you like to learn about in Kiwi Baker? I don't know
