"THE LOTTERY" - BY SHIRLEY JACKSON

1. Describe the setting, using specific details from the story in your answer.
The story is set in a small town of a village.

2. Explain the feelings of most people in town toward the lottery.
There emotions were mostly negative. nervous, frightened, stressed, unsettled and anxious.

3. What evidence is there that the lottery has been going on for a long time?
The colour of the box was dim and faded to the point where you could see its original colour.                Because it was a tradition, they must've had it for generations.

4. What is Old Man Warner’s attitude about those who would like to change things?
He thought it was a little strange for people to change the tradition.

5. Explain how the lottery works.
Everyone draws out a piece of paper. The whole family will do the same. There will only be one            person from the family that draws out a black dotted piece of paper. Unfortunately, whoever was            unlucky enough to draw out the dotted piece of paper would get stoned (meaning they would get          stones thrown at them)

6. In what way is the title, “The Lottery”, misleading?  Why would the author  want to trick the reader by having a misleading title?
Because it is titled as "The Lottery" you would think that it's a good thing, that someone will win a prize, but instead it was a very big negative plot twist that most readers would not expect.
