PARTICLE THEORY OF MATTER, CONDUCTION - SCIENCE

AIM - TO OBSERVE CONDUCTION ALONG A METAL ROD

METHOD - 1. SET UP AND LIGHT A BUNSEN BURNER
                     2. SMEAR A SMALL AMOUNT OF PETROLEUM JELLY ON THE HEAD OF                                 EACH DRAWING PIN
                     3. ATTACH THE DRAWING PINS AT EVEN INTERVALS ALONG THE                                          LENGTH OF THE METAL ROD
                     4. CLAMP ONE END OF THE METAL ROD TO A RETORT STAND
                     5. POSITION THE RETORT STAND SO THE UNCLAMPED END OF THE                                      METAL ROD IS IN THE BUNSEN FLAME
                     6. RECORD THE TIME IT TAKES FOR EACH PIN TO DROP IN THE TABLE                                 BELOW

DISCUSSION - When particles at one end of a metal rod are heated, they begin to vibrate more. Vibrating particles collide within sticking particles making them vibrate faster and transferring they energy along the bar.

Chernobyl Disaster - Social studies

1 Week ago our class was told to research some of disasters that happened through the years. I chose to search about the Chernobyl disaster that happened in 1986 ( approximately 33 years ago )

What I already Knew :
 - A nuclear disaster
- City is officially abandoned
-  Able to visit but its very strict
-  2 people died on the initial explosion

What I learned :
- Over 100 people got affected by the radiation
Image result for chernobyl png- Reactor 4 exploded
- There is an exclusion zone
- It was spread to other city close to it
- Happened 1986
- Home to wild animals

Art

This term we have been working on culture clash between manga and pasifika patterns. We started off with planning of course then we slowly worked up to our final painting throughout the term.

We had many different concepts and started developing them to get to our final idea. The whole point of concepts and developments is because they are a plan to get to where we wanna be.

I think I have used Colour theory right now, I will admit it wasn't easy to get the plan but I did get it in the end.

In my process of painting I put some of my feelings and thoughts in with my colours. I think the way I painted brought out a lot of feelings so I put it into my work

Raising agents

AIM - what is the best raising agent

METHOD -  1. Measure 1/2 tsp raising agent into a test tube
                     2. Half fill the balloon with water
                     3. Put the balloon over the test tube
                     4. Tip in the water
                     5. Record what happens to the balloon
                     6. Warm gently
                     7. Record what happens to the balloon
                     8. Leave to one side, Record what happens after 5 - 10 mins

OBSERVATION - The best raising agent is the baking powder because it inflated the balloon faster than the active yeast

TYPE OF RAISING AGENT
INITIAL REACTION
AFTER WARMING
AFTER 5 MINS
AFTER 20 MINS
BAKING POWDER
Fizzed up and inflated the balloon
nothing

BAKING SODA
Dissolved in the water and kinda inflated

YEAST & SUGAR
It did not dissolve fully like it was supposed to
Foamed up
Balloon got bigger

Diffusion Expiriment - Science

AIM - TO OBSERVE DIFFUSION IN LIQUID

METHOD - 1. Half fill your petri dish with cold water
                     2. Place the petri dish on your work bench and allow the water to become settled.
                     3. Using the tweezers, place a single crystal of potassium permanganate in the centre of                                the petri dish
                     4. Observe for 5 minutes
                     5. Repeat the experiment using hot water

DISCUSSION - In cold water the particles Slowly diffuses into the water turning the liquid to purple.                               In the hot water the particles briskly diffuses into the water.

Investigating state changes - science

AIM - TO OBSERVE WATER AS IT CHANGES STATE FROM A SOLID TO A LIQUID AND THEN A GAS

METHOD - 1. Collect enough ice so that your beaker is half full and place the thermometer into it                                 while you set up the rest of the equipment
                     2. Set up the retort stand and clamp alongside the the tripos and the gauze mat
                     3. place the beaker of ice on the gauze mat and gently clamp the thermometer so that it is                             held upright and the scale is easy to see. The bottom of your thermometer should be                               low Enough to still be covered with water when the ice melts, but not touching the the                            bottom of your beaker
                      4. record the initial temperature of the ice
5.light the Bunsen burner and start timing with the stopwatch
                      6. measure and record the temperature every minute
                      7. Continue measuring and recording the temperature until the water has been boiling for                            2-3 minutes

DISCUSSION - We heated up the solid with the Bunsen burner, the temperature was 0. Eventually the solid turned into a liquid. Then after a while the liquid evaporated in to a gas in which the temp is 100 in Celsius.
