GIVE IT A GO IN A GROUP

On Friday English, our class was given a task where we watched two video that shows abusive relationships, got in a pair and completed a work sheet where we answered and wrote the questions.
This shows my learning because we were both on task and completed the work sheet in a short amount of time.

 Group work- Critical text analysis

Texts(s):
Music:  Sia - Big Girls Cry
Topic:
Violence
How did your group focus the analysis? (Which aspect did you select to critically examine?)
  • Inclusion
  • Exclusion
  • Representation
  • Multiple readings
Which critical literacy questions did your group select to analyse the text(s)?
What is the meaning of the video?
Abusive relationship
How are women and men portrayed in the video?
That the women were getting hurt and the men leaving.
How does the text relate to reality?
There is a lot of violence in relationships.
Why did your group select those questions?
they are relevant to the clip and what we are trying to find out
Q.11 shows us about stereotypes, the way that the characters are constructed
Q.12 forces us to question stereotypes and why we see things a certain way.
Q.23 gets us to think about who has been included and how we view them
Q.27 gets us to think about who the video is aimed at and how they will view it.
What did your group conclude from the critical analysis? (So what?)
In conclusion we both thought the video was about the younger Kelly clark trying to stop the older Kelly from making the same mistakes her parents made so she can be a great mother to her future kids.

CRITICAL LITERACY- Putting in to practice #2

SOMEWHERE IS GREEN
As we watched this video we spotted many stereotypes of people in the 70s.
Some of the stereotypes I saw was: The woman had a high pitched voice, wore a puffy and over the top dress while cleaning indoors and the man also dressed over the top but he is doing all the gardening and heavy duty chores.
LEGALLY BLONDE
The stereotypes that i saw is that a blonde, blue eyed and well dressed girl is dumb while the mans stereotype is him being all smart enough to get accepted and having a successful life

QUESTIONS
1) How are adults constructed in this text? Females should be second to males in both texts. Woman in the 1st text is ambition less and the 2nd wants to be lawyer, the stereotype that blondes can be smart.

2) What kind of social reality does this text portray? Life wasn't fun, people dont want to do things outside their stereotypes (eg men in the garden & women in the kitchen) In the second clip set 30 yrs later women and men can do the same jobs and have the same opportunities.

3) How does this text construct a version of reality?  Draws from history, finds examples of props and setting that actually existed in the time period.

4) What different interpretations of the text are possible? Yes- we can view the shift from men being positive to being put down, we can view the shift in society and cultural values- there is more to life than a house, dog and kids.
